the discipleship quad guidebooks
Driven by Scripture and the Catechism, the Discipleship Quad Guidebooks provide weekly reflections on foundational beliefs of the Catholic faith with insightful questions and practical challenges that motivate the Quad to be more active disciples in the world.
How to start a quad
We find people have no trouble running and maintaining a Discipleship Quad. The challenge is starting one! Who should I invite? How should I ask? What if they say no? We answer all of these questions—and more—in this short document (that can also be found at the end of Guidebook, Part 1). We also have a video where Kristi and Dcn. Bob share their experiences of starting a Quad. And we’ve provided an email template that you can send to potential Quad members. Click here for Spanish.
Discipleship Quad guidebook, Part 1
The first Guidebook contains material explaining the Discipleship Quad process, weeks 1-10, and “How to Start a Quad.” The content unpacks the Gospel Message and culminates in a renewal of baptismal vows. Topics include creation, sin, Incarnation, Paschal Mystery, Baptism, and divine adoption. Applications for each session focus on the first characteristic of a disciple, “Identity.” Click here for Spanish.
Discipleship Quad guidebook, Part 2
The second Guidebook contains material for weeks 11-22. It introduces the next four characteristics of a disciple, “Prayer,” “Sacraments,” “Obedience,” and “Community.” It also includes a “Spiritual Check-Up” that helps the Quad evaluate how they are doing with those characteristics. Topics include the Trinity, Mass, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Scripture and Tradition, vocal and meditative prayer, and the Church. Click here for Spanish.
Discipleship Quad guidebook, Part 3
The third Guidebook contains material for weeks 23-33. It explains the final two characteristics of “Service” and “Sharing” and provides another opportunity for self-assessment. Since they are more than half-way through the process, Quad members are encouraged to be more vulnerable and accountable with the others. Topics include God the Father, the Holy Spirit, Blessed Virgin Mary, the family, the virtues (theological and cardinal), “love one another,” and works of mercy. Click here for Spanish.
Discipleship Quad guidebook, Part 4
The fourth Guidebook contains material for weeks 34-44. It presents the seven characteristics as an organic unity and explains how to live them out in the model of St. Joseph, through meaningful work and healthy rest (with a final “Spiritual Check-Up”). Quad members are challenged to discern specific ways they will continue to grow as a disciple and support other disciples when the Quad is completed. Topics include sharing the Gospel, the spiritual battle, contemplative prayer, chastity, the authority of the Church, discerning and accepting God’s will, and the call to community.
